Banking and Finance

As an international financial centre, Hong Kong’s business and financial activities are closely linked to those of other financial centres and contribute to its economic development. Banking and financial services are diversified. The scope of work is mainly divided into counter services and wealth management services. As a result, there is a strong demand for frontline staff. At present, there are more than 150,000 people working in the banking and financial sectors in Hong Kong, of which about 65% are engaged in banking. The local institutions of higher education also offer a wide range of training programmes and programmes to enhance the skills and knowledge of students in the relevant businesses.

Duties

The main services provided by banks are deposits, loans, foreign exchange and insurance. Bank tellers are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the frontline. The main tasks are as follows:

  • Handle daily counter transactions and customer inquiries, including services for account access, transfer and payment
  • Count and verify banknotes and cheques
  • Report any suspicious over-the-counter transactions to the company in accordance with banking regulatory requirements and regulations
  • Provide administrative support to all departments of the company
  • Provide customers with relevant banking products and services

Duties

  • Provide clients with professional financial analysis and solutions, including medical, critical illness and accident insurance
  • Conduct telemarketing and customer interviews as needed
  • Participate in and plan different types of promotional activities

Duties

Since the launch of the Stock Connect, to promote the development of the stock and securities industries in Hong Kong and the mainland,  securities practitioners are demanded to provide clients with services such as securities and futures trading. Their main tasks are as follows:

  • Handle branch customer enquiries and comments
  • Open accounts, trade orders and settle accounts for customers
  • Deal with stock and futures transactions
  • Participate in the marketing and promotion activities of the company
  • Participate in company training on a regular basis

  • Answer customer queries and requests
  • Monitor customers’ trading activities, and conduct risk assessment and control

  • Keep an eye on global market changes and conduct market research
  • Collect and collate data, analyze and forecast the market and write reports
  • Comment on the market trend and countermeasures
  • Forecast the target price of an enterprise in the future
